A biochemist and former hospital administrator, Gordon now specialises in medical, technology, and criminal law.

Gordon Chan is versatile counsel in criminal, civil, and administrative laws. He is a member of Alfred K C Fung Chambers, the leading set of medical chambers in Hong Kong. He trained as a biochemist and worked in the quality and safety of a major public hospital, and has extensive experience in the medicolegal and healthcare fields.

Gordon regularly advises patients and medical practitioners on various medicolegal issues. His vast experience encompasses death inquests, disciplinary inquiries, criminal investigations, regulatory regimes, and commercial matters in medical practice. His unique blend of medical and legal knowledge allows him to provide comprehensive and insightful advice. He is the editor for public health of Archbold Hong Kong — the authoritative reference text on criminal law.

Gordon’s experience in medicine and science extends into criminal law, where he has advised law enforcement agencies on regulatory crimes concerning food, drugs, and healthcare institutions. His expertise also extends to complex medical, psychiatric, and technical cases, such as homicide and sexual cases and those involving technology and digital evidence. This breadth of experience allows him to handle complicated legal issues even in new frontiers. He acted as a sole advocate in criminal appeals. Gordon had also been approached by foreign law firm concerning criminal matters in Hong Kong.

While with the Department of Justice, Gordon had considered proposals for plea bargaining and binding over from the defence. He now regularly negotiates with the prosecution on these matters.

Gordon maintained a keen interest in science and technology, particularly in biotechnology, coding, data science, and artificial intelligence. He is also an athlete in ISSF 10 metre air pistol shooting events and is familiar with arms and ammunition regulations in Hong Kong.
