“... It was a great weight over the past year off my mind to be safely acquitted, with the help of Mr Chan …” (Translation)

Mr Gordon Chan is honoured to be mentioned again by HKU Law Faculty in their recent article discussing access to justice through two pro bono cases of taxi drivers. Mr Chan represented one of the taxi drivers where the complainant repeatedly ditched the trial date last minute.

In the newsletter article Access to Justice: A Tale of Two Taxis, Mr Chan also talked about the problem with access to justice for traffic cases in the Magistracy. There is a gap in our system where traffic summons, careless driving, and even as serious as dangerous driving are not covered by the Duty Lawyer Scheme’s Standard List of Offences. On the other hand, legal aid is only available if the case is serious enough to be dealt with in the District Court.

Mr Chan is also grateful for the compliment from Mr Chau, a taxi driver with 30 years of impeccable records, and is very pleased to see his name vindicated.
