Mr Gordon Chan, together with Dr Ephraem Tsui and Mr Richard Man, is invited as a trainer for the Hospital Authority’s Advanced Specialty Training Program for Clinical Psychologists in medicolegal issues.
In partnership with an eminent clinical psychologist and former President of the Hong Kong Psychological Society, together with Mr Gordon Chan designed the training programme for the Hospital Authority’s Institute of Advanced Allied Health Studies.
Comprising four sessions, the module “Advanced Case Management and Legal Issues” seeks to navigate the legal complexities inherent in professional practice. The curriculum encompasses the novel reporting duties mandated by the Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse Ordinance (Cap 650), alongside recent developments concerning the admissibility of expert psychological testimony in homicide cases. Additionally, the sessions provide a comprehensive analysis of the ethical, practical, and professional considerations essential to the drafting of expert reports.
The programme also sees the introduction of experiential learning as a mode of training. In the second half of the training sessions, participating clinical psychologists get a taste of testifying in simulated court proceedings at a criminal trial and a death inquest. Mr Richard Man was invited as a guest trainer, sitting as the mock judge and coroner while providing valuable feedback to the trainees.
