CRHK1 Interview on Surrogacy Regulations and Medical Ethics

CRHK1 “On a Clear Day” interviewed Mr Gordon Chan about regulations on reproductive technologies, surrogacy, sex selection services, and the underlying medical ethics.

In an interview with CRHK1 On a Clear Day 在晴朗的一天出發, Mr Gordon Chan introduced the Human Reproductive Technology Ordinance (Cap 561), which regulates the use of reproductive technologies in Hong Kong since 2007.

Under the Ordinance, a broad range of activities are regulated with extra-territorial effect. These would include the use of IVF treatment (aka test tube babies), surrogacy, sex selection, sperm donations, etc.

Mr Gordon Chan also discussed the underlying strict ethical considerations of the Ordinance, such as prohibiting commercial surrogacy, closely regulating sperm donation, and limiting the number of offspring from donors.
